Our Community

Port Stephens is not a city in its own right, but rather a region spread around and beyond the magnificent waterways of Port Stephens. Covering nearly 1000 square kilometres, the area boasts exceptional diversity, in terms of what there is to see and do. It's location at the end of the freeway from Sydney, at the juntion of the Pacific and New England Highways and at the very end of the Golden Highway from Dubbo makes it easily accessible and marks Port Stephens as the gateway to the North Coast of NSW.

The eastern peninsula, the Tomaree Peninsula, is the main destination in Port Stephens and a mecca for people who love water, beaches and all the aquatic activities. Bound by the Port itself to the north and the ocean to the east and south, the peninsula is characterised by striking beaches and a string of small townships that are dotted around the shores. The dominant tomaree headland guards the entrance to the Port. Leading back along the northern bay shoreline are the townships of Shoal Bay, Nelson Bay, Corlette, Salamander Bay, Soldiers Point, whilst Fingal Bay, Boat Harbour, Fisherman's Bay and Anna Bay is located on the ocean shores of the peninsula.

The adjoining Tillergerry Peninsula (to the west), smaller in size, attracts families, nature and boating enthusiasts. The area has a marked emphasis on eco tourism and is best known for its large native koala population, idylic waterfront areas and peaceful atmosphere.
